Im dritten Kapitel dieser Arbeit werden, ausgehend von einer Abgrenzung des Begriffes Popkultur, verschiedene tendencies und Entwicklungen der Popkultur der letzten Jahre aufgezeigt. Das vierte Kapitel betrachtet die Rolle von Madonna als Bestandteil und Schrittmacher der internationalen Popkultur. Anhand der Mitte der 80er Jahre aufkommenden Musikvideos und einer Untersuchung der Themen ihrer Musikalben, werden die Vermarktungsstrategien von Madonna aufgezeigt. Darüber hinaus wird der Aspekt der Polysemie in Madonnas Texten angeführt. Indem ihre Texte unterschiedliche Lesarten ermöglichen, können gleichzeitig ganz verschiedene Empfänger mit den Texten angesprochen werden. Abschließend wird zusammenfassend dargestellt, inwieweit popkulturelle Phänomene unter dem Einfluss der Globalisierung stehen.
